What to Pack for Your First College Apartment

Congratulations on finding and securing an awesome student apartment! Now that fall semester is almost upon us, it’s time to start thinking about what items you need to pack for your first college apartment. This school year is going to be great! Here’s how to make it a successful one at home.

YOUR BEDROOM.

1. Laptop

This is probably one of the most important items needed to succeed in your college career. A laptop is where you’ll submit your online quizzes, store research papers, and binge watch your favorite Netflix series. To be better prepared for your studies, keep your desk clean, organized, and fully stocked of school supplies.

2. Futon or Comfy Lounge Chair

The stress of class, study groups, and maintaining your GPA can really take a toll on you. It’s essential to have a space in your bedroom specifically for relaxation. This nook of yours will be your personal sanctuary, where you can do anything that eases your mind and body, such as reading a leisurely book, draw, sew, or catch up on shows like   Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt or The Handmaid’s Tale. Adding a cool and vibrant rug, fun floor lamp, and oversized throw will add not only comfort to your space, but personality to your bedroom.

YOUR BATHROOM.

1. Storage Cart

Whether you’re fortunate enough to have your own bathroom or are sharing with a roommate, you’re going to need a storage cart to house all of your toiletries. Many bathrooms lack sufficient cabinet storage for bathroom essentials like toilet paper, soap, towels, and makeup. These carts are very cheap - perfect for a college student’s budget!

2. Shower Curtain & Rugs

A rug or two in the bathroom is an absolute must. Rugs are comforting on your feet when standing, plus they add a punch of color to the space. Shower curtains are essential, but so is a shower liner. Be sure to get the right size to prevent water from leaking out of the shower.

YOUR LIVING ROOM.

1. Television

A modest size TV is really all you need in your apartment. It affords you the opportunity to host a movie night with friends, or play a video game for a few hours on the Xbox.

YOUR KITCHEN.

1. Cookware

If you signed a lease with a roommate, you should get in contact with them to see who will bring what. You can find affordable pots and pans pretty much anywhere - and they typically come with accessories like a spatula and soup ladle. Be sure you also pick up a kitchen knife set, wooden spoons, a baking sheet, plates, and utensils. Oh, an oven mitt will also be useful.

2. Coffee Maker

Yeah, I don’t think this one needs explaining.
